Saints look to declaw Panthers
By Harry Hodge
A major late-season matchup in the Deep South will go a long way to helping sort out the NFL’s muddled playoff picture.
If you love high-powered offences, a duel between Carolina’s Cam Newton and New Orleans’ Drew Brees should be right up your alley. With both teams sitting at 8-3, NFC South supremacy is on the line, as well as dictating playoff position. The loser of this matchup will not only fall behind the victor, but will likely miss the boat on a first-round bye as the Minnesota Vikings (9-2) and Philadelphia Eagles (10-1) look poised to lock up those spots in the coming weeks.
For New Orleans to succeed, look for Saints running back Mark Ingram to make his presence felt, as he makes a push for 1,000 yards on the season, racking up 837 along with eight touchdowns on the ground.
Meanwhile, look for Newton to zero in on receiver Devin Funchess, who’s logged 50 receptions for more than 600 yards and five touchdowns. These teams know each other well as divisional foes over the years, so expect fireworks with the postseason on the line.
