Premier League Talking Points: Gameweek 14
Manchester City vs Chelsea: Clash of Titans
After a slow start, Chelsea have played their way to the top of the league. It’s quite straightforward – Antonio Conte has put together a defence which rarely concedes goals, and an attack which rarely fails to score. The once calamitous David Luiz has been imperious as part of the back three, Victor Moses’ resurgence at wing-back has been spectacular and the forward play of Eden Hazard, Pedro and the bullish Diego Costa has been outstanding.
On the other hand, Man City have been quietly effective of late. It’s been a few results. This could be the week to get back into the swing of things. Chelsea’s 3-4-3 formation leaves room for the likes of De Bruyne, Sterling and Silva to show their guile. On the other hand, that Chelsea attack against a fragile City defence could produce more than one goal for the away side.
Everton vs Manchester United
Neither side’s form has been scintillating of late, but this still has the potential to be a great game. Both are playing well in fits and starts, they’re also incredibly prone to underwhelming performances here and there. If both find some kind of form on Sunday, this promises to entertain. United fans must be crying out to see more of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who excelled in the League Cup midweek. The Armenian will be able to take some of the weight of Juan Mata’s shoulders in the creativity department and help reignite United’s attacking spark.
