Day 2 of the Saigon Rugby Championships – Saturday 1st April
The Saigon Rugby Club continues to take rugby in Saigon to new levels of inclusiveness and fun. This weekend sees the second week of the Rugby Championships between teams from France, Japan, the Southern Hemisphere and the rest of the world. The boys from down-under are looking the goods at the moment with 2 strong wins last weekend.
Sport in Saigon caught up with Geckos skipper Benny Armstrong to find out what it was all about:
SIS: Benny, what’s the Saigon Rugby Championships all about?
BA: It’s basically just an internal comp run over 5 weeks, it’s simply just more fun playing than just training!
SIS: Sounds good! What can anyone coming down to check it out on Saturday expect?
BA: Plenty of fun, Tiger beers, music and some rugby on the side. It’s all pretty low key with mostly just the WAGS and kids of the blokes out at the field but anyone’s welcome to come join in!
SIS: So how was week 1?
BA: Last week the Southerners dominated both Japanese (42-0) and the French (38-0). The French beat Barbarians (14-7) and Barbarians beat Japanese (21-7).
SIS: Most importantly… Who is the team everyone wants to knock off?
BA: This week us Southerners play both Barbarians and the French. Although it is just a fun internal comp EVERYONE wants to belt the French!
